Maura is a seasoned campaign professional with over 15 years of experience in grassroots organizing, movement building, federal advocacy, coalition building, environmental justice, and communications. Maura’s was most recently the Director of the Sierra Club’s Resist Campaign, where she led the organization’s efforts throughout the Trump Administration to build grassroots power and defend bedrock environmental, climate, and public health regulations.
Maura has extensive experience designing and leading cutting edge campaigns and large scale mobilizations. She has been at the forefront of mobilizations that have resulted in hundreds of thousands of people takingto the streets to demand action on climate. Prior to her work at Sierra Club, Maura led a diverse coalition of environmental justice, regional and national climate organizations that pushed the Obama Administration to take bold action on climate. Maura was a founding member of the US divestment movement and has worked internationally to shift public and private finance away from fossil fuels. She has also worked with grassroots organizations around the world fighting fossil fuel infrastructure in their communities.
In addition to her national work, Maura has direct and ongoing experience on public health and environmental threats in an environmental justice community. Maura is from Scranton, PA and brings first hand knowledge and experience of local environmental justice campaigning into her national work.
